Heat Setting Your Fabric

How to Heat-Set Fabric Paint with an Iron
Heat-setting is essential to ensure your block-printed fabrics stay vibrant, durable, and long-lasting. Without it, fabric paint can fade, crack, or wash out over time. By following these simple steps, you'll help preserve your textiles for years to come.

1. Let the Paint Dry Completely
Allow the painted fabric to dry for at least 24 hours before heat-setting. This ensures the paint has fully adhered to the fabric.

2. Prepare the Fabric for Ironing
•    Place the fabric flat on an ironing board.
•    Cover the painted design with a clean cotton cloth to protect both the fabric and your iron.

3. Set the Iron to the Right Temperature
•    Adjust your iron to a medium-high (cotton) setting.

4. Iron the Painted Area
•    Move the iron continuously over the covered design for 2 to 5 minutes.
•    Avoid leaving the iron in one spot too long to prevent scorching.
•    Apply even pressure while keeping the iron moving to ensure consistent heat distribution.

5. Let the Fabric Cool
Once you’ve finished ironing, allow the fabric to cool completely before handling. This helps the paint bond fully with the fabric fibres.

6. Wait Before Washing
For best results, wait at least 48 hours before washing. When you do, wash on a gentle cycle.
